Joint Meritorious Unit Awards -- JMUA
For Joint Task Force Six and Joint Task Force North
The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff has approved the award of the Department of Defense Joint Meritorious Unit Award for Headquarters, Joint Task Force Six / Joint Task Force North for the following periods of service:01 October 1990 - 30 September 1992
01 January 1993 - 31 December 1999
01 February 2002 - 31 January 2004
01 January 2007 - 31 December 2008Units participating in operational missions for JTF-6 / JTF-N are under Tactical Control (TACON) of the Commander, JTF-6 / JTF-N but are not assigned or attached organically to JTF-6 / JTF-N. Mission unit personnel remain assigned to their parent organization and therefore are not eligible for the award of the Joint Meritorious Unit Award (JMUA).
The following information outlines who is eligible to receive the JTF-6 / JTF-N JMUA, requirements for wear, second and subsequent awards, and how military records will be annotated.
Who is Eligible? Only those U.S. permanent party military personnel, federal civilians employees, reservists, and augmentees, who were assigned or attached to Headquarters, JTF-6 / JTF-N, during the periods listed above for 30 days or more (cumulative or consecutive) are authorized to wear the JTF-6 / JTF-N JMUA ribbon. Personnel must have been assigned or attached by official orders to Headquarters, JTF-6 / JTF-N. Unlike Army Unit Awards, members must have been physically present during the period indicated to wear this award.
Placement of Ribbon and Subsequent Awards: The JMUA will be worn after the Presidential Unit Citation, but will be positioned before any military service unit award. An oak-leaf cluster is worn for each additional JMUA. Civilians will be awarded a civilian JMUA lapel pin for those assigned or attached during the periods of the award. No oak-leaf clusters are worn on civilian lapel pins.
Record Entries:
a. Permanently Assigned Military Personnel: Each military service element and their perspective higher headquarters personnel offices will be provided with a copy of the JMUA order and citation. NO REQUIREMENT EXISTS FOR EACH INDIVIDUAL TO RECEIVE A COPY OF ORDERS AND CITATIONS . Individuals may obtain a personal copy of the orders and citation by accessing the following link:

• October 2009 (PDF 451 KBs)It is the responsibility of each of the services to ensure that proper entries are made in the service member's military records; however, individuals are ultimately responsible for checking with their respective service personnel offices to ensure the required entries were made. Individuals can also print and forward a copy of the JMUA permanent orders and citation (link listed below) along with "official" proof (i.e. JTF-6 / JTF-N assignment or attachment orders) of qualification that denotes the prescribed period to their respective service personnel offices.
b. Reserve/Augmentee/TDY Personnel: Each of the services makes the required notification to their personnel offices worldwide of units approved for military awards. Reservists, augmentees and TDY personnel should check with their respective personnel office to ensure the JMUA is annotated in their personal record.
