Sergeant Major Marcos A. Cordero was appointed as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader of Joint Task Force North on 10 November 2022.
Originally from New York, NY, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, SC graduating April 1998.
In June 1998, he reported to Assault Amphibious School for Assault Amphibian Crewman Course, Camp Pendleton, CA where he received the Military Occupational Specialty of 1833, Amphibian Crewman.
In September 1998, he reported to 3d Assault Amphibious Battalion (AABN), Camp Pendleton, CA. In September 1999, SgtMaj Cordero was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Corporal.
In January 2000, SgtMaj Cordero deployed to Okinawa, Japan with Alpha Company as part of the Unit Deployment Program (UDP).
In July 2000, SgtMaj Cordero received orders to 3d Platoon, Delta Company, 3d AABN, 29 Palms, CA. He deployed with Charlie Company in January 2001 as part of the UDP, where he participated in Land Force Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training.
In October 2001, SgtMaj Cordero received orders to Recruiters School, MCRD San Diego, CA. In January 2002, he reported to Recruiting Substation Manhattan, Recruiting Station NY, 1st Marine Corps District, where he served as a Canvassing Recruiter. In July 2003, he was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant.
In April 2005, SgtMaj Cordero reported to 3d Platoon, Bravo Co, 3d AABN, Camp Pendleton, CA, where he served as a Section Leader.
In September 2005, SgtMaj Cordero deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 5-7. In March 2007, SgtMaj Cordero redeployed with Bravo Company to OIF 7-02, assigned as Section Leader, 2nd Platoon.
In February 2008, SgtMaj Cordero reported to Assault Amphibian Schools Battalion where he served as the Company Gunnery Sergeant, Company First Sergeant, Platoon Commander, and Senior Instructor.
In April 2011, SgtMaj Cordero reported to 2d Platoon, Charlie Co, 3d AABN, Camp Pendleton, CA where he served as a Platoon Sergeant. In October 2011, he deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 11-2.
In April 2013, SgtMaj Cordero received orders to Detachment 1, Transportation Services Company, Combat Logistics Battalion 25, Stone Bay, Camp Lejeune, NC and served as the Inspector-Instructor First Sergeant.
In December 2015 SgtMaj Cordero reported to 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, Camp Pendleton, CA where he served as Headquarters and Service Company First Sergeant.
In May 2017, SgtMaj Cordero reported to 3d Battalion, 12th Marine Regiment to serve as Battalion Sergeant Major, and in May 2018 he served as Battalion Sergeant Major, 3d Reconnaissance Battalion, 3d Marine Division, Okinawa, Japan.
In January 2020, SgtMaj Cordero deployed with Marine Rotational Force-Darwin 20-2 as the Command Element Sergeant Major. In November 2020, SgtMaj Cordero reported to Combat Logistics Regiment 3, 3d Marine Logistics Group where he served as the Regimental Sergeant Major.
SgtMaj Cordero earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree with Honors in Organization Management from Ashford University in November 2015, and a Master's Degree with Honors in Strategic Leadership from the University of Charleston, West Virginia in May 2020.
SgtMaj Cordero's personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with gold star in lieu of third award, Navy and Marine Commendation Medal with gold star in lieu of fourth award, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with gold star in lieu of second award, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
